pic Picked up an Alpine Surfer with a bad 50 inch monitor a couple of months ago. The monitor was a rear projection screen with a brightness problem. After removing the cover we didn't find any reasons for the brightness being so low. After getting a second option it was determined that RGB guns were dead from over use. So we pulled the monitor and sent it to the dump. After visiting a couple of TV stores we decided that a 50 inch replacement monitor was uneconomical.
We came across a 40 inch CRT monitor from Pentranics. Fashioned monitor brackets from a 2X4 and a couple of pieces of plywood. This gave the cabinet strength and also allowed us to position the monitor for best viewing. Wiring the monitor was as simple as removing the RGB to Composite adapter board and wiring the RGB signals from the PCB straight to the monitor. pic
pic Installing a 40 inch CRT monitor over a rear projection monitor gives the game a very clear picture with out giving up to much in monitor size. Our next task is to buy a car amplifier and installing 6X9 speakers for sound. The game relided on the projection screen sound system to provide some of the game sounds.
pic After testing the game we realized that a 5K pot will need to be changed on the ski board platform. I will upload more pictures as the task get completed.

Added car amplifier and 6X9 speakers to the holes that were already there. Used metal speaker covers and wired the amp to a 12v power already in cabinet. The game came with RCA Jacks that were plugged into the Projection Screen system. They are now plugged into the car amplifier.

Installed new Plexiglass over the monitor and painted out the area around the monitor. Game is ready to go.
